Fix anon-bootingUSB

Following Issue 477’s cover feature

(bit.ly/webuser477) onusing aUSB

memory stick to host a portable

operating system, I decidedto give it a

go andinvested£25 in the Pro version

of WinToUSB (bit.ly/wtou481). However,

I don’t seemable to get it to work.

I have tried three PCs and two laptops,

a mixture ofWindows10 Professional

and Home, BIOS and UEFI, MBRs and

GPTs, with no luck. Not a single device

booted from the USBstick. I obviously

changed the settings in BIOS/UEFIto

allow USB boot and made it the first

bootable device. I tried with and without

Legacycompatibility, and with and

without Safe Boot.

I’ve also tried all the optionsavailable

in WinToUSB, such as all three partition

schemes and all three optionsat the final

stage, including VHD and VHDX. Canyou

think of any otherreason why it’s not

working? I’m using a DataTraveler 100 G3

64GBstick, which is more than enough

for my64-bitWindowsversion. Any

advicewould be

appreciated.

fromthe Kingston

DataTraveler to a

Sandisk andit worked

firsttime. Some

computers and USB

flash drives just seemto

beincompatible. It can’t

evenbe narrowed down

to a singlemanufacturer,

because one modelwill

work but another won’t.

Ever since I installed the recent

major Windows10 update, the

format of myDownloads folder has

changed. WhenI goto Save Asand

click a folder, it shows alongand

detailed list of filesorganised into

Yesterday, Last Week, Last Month

andso on.

I find this layout very annoying and

wouldrather have an alphabetical list

of files andfolders.This ismy

preferred layout, and Istill see this if

I access thefolder through File

Explorer. It also has anextensive

toolbar across thetop of thecontents

in File Explorer, which isn’t visible in

the Save As window, nor does there

appearto be awayto make it visible.

How do I make the Save As list look

like the File Explorer one?
