Downloadyour ebook
library to a new Kindle
Q
In 2010, Iwas givenmy first Amazon
Kindle e-reader. It probablycontains
around 300 books, but sadly I mislaid it
when moving house. Can Iretrieve those
books from the Amazon cloudto read on
my new KindlePaperwhite? The Manage
Your Devices section only shows my
purchases from the pastyear.

One of theWeb Userteam ran int o
the same problemrecently, so
hopefullywe can helpyou getyour old
library back. Onceyou’ve bought a book,
it’s yours, soyou canread it on any
deviceregistered to your Amazon
account. You can do this onyour ne w
deviceby pressing the Home button and
switching the view from On Deviceto
Cloud – the option is located under the
ribbon in the left-handcorner. This
displays all the Kindle booksconnected
to your ac count, andyou can download
each titleby tapping thecover.
You can also push ebooksto your
Kindle viaamazon.co.uk. Log intoyour
account, then visit ‘ManageYour Content
and Devices’.You should see a list of all
your purchases. Beside each title,you’ll
see three dots. Click thisfor the optionto
‘Deliverto Default Device & Others’. Here
you can send the bookto a particular
Kindle and create a default device, if you
haven’t already. Click Deliver andyour
Kindle will download the ebook.

Stopthe ‘PC LoadLetter’ error
message
Q
Does anyone actually know what the
printer error message ‘PCLoad
Letter’ means? I’ve seenreferences to it
several times lately, including in unfunny
internet memes, and I’d never heard of
this problem before. Is it serious?
ClivePotts, via email
A
If you see this message onyour
printer, don’t panic –you won’t need
to buy a new one. While ‘PCLoad Letter ’
sounds incrediblyvague, the error itself is
straightforward.Your printer istelling you
that you’ve triedto print a letter-sized
page, butyou don’t have the correct
paper. As such, the fix isto reprint the
letter using thecorrect document size.
The reason you’ve seen this mocked
online is because it’s a reference to the
cult Nineties filmOffice Space.

In responseto Gillian Fields’ letter
about Google Play not logging her
in (Issue479, bit.ly/webuser479), it
may be an account change or an error
at Google’s end. See ifyou can sign
into your ac count using aweb br owser.
If you can, check thatyou ha ven’t
changedyour password recently,
becauseyour device might be logged
out. Log intomyaccount.google.com
and see ifyour device is listed in the
section that shows logged in devices. If
it isn’t, go into Settings,Accounts, click
Check that Google
Play is working
the + button, then click Google and
sign in. If none of thesesteps help,
back upyour device, then go into the
FactoryReset menu andreset it.

Q
Is it still worth buying a laptop with
a DVD drive? Many new models
don’t have one. I don’t mindstreaming
media, but I’d probably payextra for
an optical drive. Am I being silly?
