Again, the opposition struck first. Las Vegas had outscored all teams in the tournament heading into the
championship, and they got right down to business in this game. The Storm whistled a bar-down ringer
over the left should of Stutzer in the first 45 seconds of the game. The Mavs again found themselves in a
hole to start the game, and Las Vegas was hoping to keep up the pressure.

However, just as the Mavs have done all season, they bounced back quickly, and weren’t fazed by the
early deficit. They came back with a vengeance... scoring three goals before the end of the 1st period.
KC capitalized on a neutral zone turnover by Las Vegas for the Mavs first goal, with O’Bryant feeding
Hargadine in the slot to tie the game 1-1. Shortly after that, Hargadine netted a 5-hole shot off a feed
from Wiesner. Not to be outdone, Wiesner scored his own 5-hole goal (shorthanded) off a feed from
Hargadine. But the opening period scoring still wasn’t done, as O’Bryant came fresh out of the penalty
box with 1:41 remaining in the 1st period and added another goal, giving the Mavs a commanding 4-1
lead heading into the 2nd period.

Wiesner added another goal early into the 2nd period, and that would be the extent of the scoring. The
Mavs clamped down with their usual stout defense and relentless forecheck, riding their 5-1 lead all the
way to the championship. A field that started with 80 teams was narrowed down to a single team, with
the Mavs finishing on top.
