Claudie Pierlot’s creative director

reveals how to put a little je ne

sais quoi into your wardrobe

We’ve long been fans of inimitable French style: the

borrowed-from-the-boys tailoring, the romantic dresses,

the pared-back accessories. But it takes work to look

this effortless. So what’s the secret? ‘It’s about great

fits, quality fabrics and attention to detail,’ says

Vanessa Pierrat, the creative director of quintessentially

French label Claudie Pierlot, ‘nothing is left to chance.’

The Claudie Pierlot summer collection is an example:

cotton ruffle blouses worn with Bermuda shorts; linen suits

paired with sporty sandals; a billowing sundress, with a

swooped back, printed in nostalgic florals. Pierrat describes it

as ‘a mix of femininity, romanticism and preppy with a twist’.

One might say that her own style has influenced her

designs; she says she gravitates to ‘slightly masculine,

oversized tailoring mixed with casual denim pieces, gold

jewellery and statement flat sandals’ for her own wardrobe
