India
Local elections held
The world’s largest local elections took
place in India across five states. A local
election is when people choose their
state’s government, not the country’s
rulers. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party
(BJP) came first in four states including
Uttar Pradesh, where more than 200
million people live. In Punjab, the AAP
party won 92 out of 115 places in the
assembly and Bhagwant Mann was
elected chief minister.
