The SCVMM 2012 ability to patch an entire Hyper-V cluster with one click was a
welcome feature and removed the need for many custom PowerShell and Orchestrator
solutions, but Windows Server 2012 minimized the need even to use SCVMM.
Windows Server 2012 introduced a native one-click patching of an entire cluster to the
Failover Clustering feature. Once again, this Cluster-Aware Updating (CAU) leveraged
WSUS and could patch not only Hyper-V clusters but any type of cluster with no
downtime to the workloads running in the cluster. I cover this in detail in Chapter 7,
“Failover Clustering and Migration Technologies.”
