expensive storage-based replication.
Set quality of service (QoS) for VM storage to avoid noisy neighbor problem.
NETWORKING
Template-based deployment for Software Defined Networking (SDN) components,
such as the Network Controller, Gateway, and Software Load Balancer
Isolation and filtering of network traffic flowing in and out of a VM vNIC by
defining port access control lists (ACLs), which is managed through SCVMM
PowerShell cmdlets
Consistent naming of virtual network adapters, as seen by the guest operating
system
Self-service capability for Network Controller managed fabric through Windows
Azure Pack (WAP)
Reliable and atomic Logical Switch deployment across hosts, which means if there
is a failure the entire set of actions are rolled back restoring the host to its original
state
SECURITY
Full lifecycle management of newly introduced guarded hosts and shielded VMs,
including the management of pre-existing Host Guardian Service (HGS) servers
and the creation and management of shielded VMs
Convert a non-shielded VM to a shielded VM.
Installation
SCVMM 2016, supports installation only on Windows Server 2016, which requires a
64-bit server. Additionally, it must be installed on a Windows Server 2016 with
Desktop Experience or the GUI-less Server Core preferred install. Nano Server is also
not supported to host SCVMM but can be a managed Host OS or a SCVMM library
server. The other software requirements are fairly minimal. The only requirement that
you will have to install manually is the latest Windows Assessment and Deployment
Kit (WADK), which includes components to create and manage operating system
images that are required for SCVMM’s bare-metal deployment features. You can
download the correct WADK version from https://developer.microsoft.com/en-
us/windows/hardware/windows-assessment-deployment-kit. SQL Server Feature
Pack (both the 2012 and 2014 versions) must also be installed. The other
requirements are part of the Windows Server operating system, such as Microsoft
.NET Framework 4.5 and 4.6, and are automatically installed by the SCVMM
installation process. SCVMM must be installed on a server that is part of an Active
Directory domain but does not have any strict requirements, such as a Windows
Server 2008 domain or forest-level mode.
