General Measures

■Stress the need for future sun protection.

■Substitute an alternative agent for a photosensitizing medication.

■Cool compresses

■Aspirin or indomethacin, or other NSAID

■Topical antibiotic for vesicular, bullous or erosive lesion

Specific Situations

■UVL is an immunosuppressant

■UVB phototherapy or Psoralen+UVA (PUVA) photochemotherapy

■Yearly full body examination for patients who sustained a blistering

sunburn

■Teach self-examination to patients or family members.

■Educate patients and family members about the hazards of acute or

chronic sun exposure.

aging)

■Increased risk of development of melanoma and non-melanoma

skin cancer

■Pain and swelling in the distribution of a superficial vein

■Can occur spontaneously or after trauma, venipuncture or IV place-

ment

■No history of fevers in most cases

■Septic thrombophlebitis
