History
■Spasmodic croup and acute laryngotracheitis sometimes both
termed laryngotracheitis b/c overlap of syndromes
■Sometimes referred to as spasmodic croup
■3 months to 3 years of age, peak 2nd year of life
■more common in boys than girls
■epidemiology patterns of croup reflect seasonal patterns of agents
■Croup is a distinctive clinical syndrome resulting from involvement
of the larynx with resultant edema and stridor (aka laryngotracheo-
bronchitis).
■Etiologies
➣Usually viral, in order of frequency;
Parainfluenza most common cause (1,2,3)
