■Sebacious gland carcinomas (SGC) account for 2–4% of eyelid malig-
nancies.
■A “recurrent stye or chalazoin” in the same eyelid location is possibly
a SGC.
tests
■All such lesions require a biopsy with a histologic evaluation.
differential diagnosis
■BCC is the most common eyelid malignancy (>90%).
■Much less commonly: sebaceous carcinoma, squamous cell carci-
noma, melanoma,
■Kaposi’s sarcoma, and rarer malignancies.
management
■Most eyelid tumors managed surgically with excellent cosmetics.
■In selected cases, radiation or cryotherapy.
■Metastatic patterns of eyelid malignancies similar to other head/
neck sites.

■Presentation varies with underlying etiology.
■Polydipsia and polyuria
■Children present with failure to thrive, short stature and rickets.
■Adults develop osteomalacia.
tests
■Hyperchloremic metabolic acidosis, hypophosphatemia, hypo-
kalemia
■Glucosuria, generalized aminoaciduria, phosphaturia (fractional
excretion >20%)
