Locate settings easily
Edge’s preferences are searchable. Type
“sync”, say, into the bar above the categories.
To the right you’ll then see a consolidated view
of all pages where that term appears, making it
simpler to locate things than in Safari’s prefs.

Read pages aloud
Edge has its own screen reader
dedicated to reading web pages. Go to Tools >
Read Aloud > Turn On to have it start speaking.
A bar containing shortcuts to the same menu’s
options will appear beneath Edge’s toolbar.

Stream media to a TV
Got a TV/add–on that supports Google’s
Chromecast tech? Some online media can be
sent from Edge to it. Click the toolbar’s cast
button and pick a destination. Or, wait a second
and click “i” for info about receivers.

Set site permissions
In Microsoft Edge > Preferences, click
Site Permissions. Note the extra control Edge
gives. Review all items — you might want to
allow Clipboard access at iCloud.com or docs.
google.com, for example, but not elsewhere.

Voice options
Don’t like the default voice? Click Voice
Options (top right) to alter its speed or choose
another. As well as Microsoft’s four options,
you can pick from those installed for macOS’s
reader (System Prefs > Accessibility > Speech).

Turn websites into apps!
Some sites can be turned into apps with
their own Dock icon and dedicated window.
Try it out: go to youtube.com, click “...” (at the
top right) and pick Apps > Install App. A folder
containing all apps you’ve created will open.

GENIUS TIP

If you’re going to use
the Read Aloud feature,
consider setting up
keyboard shortcuts for
its Turn On and Close
commands for speedy
access. See how at bit.ly/
kbdshort.

GENIUS TIP

At its Build conference,
Microsoft announced an
upcoming feature called
Collections. This is like
a souped–up version of
Safari’s Reading List. You
can use it to collect and
share pages and smaller
snippets from the web
more easily. It’ll even
enable you to annotate
what you save.
