Position a text box
It snaps to the margins (if not, turn on
all in More > Guides). Tap the brush icon and,
on the Style tab, set no fill or border. Click
Done. On your page, try adding a text box.
You can now snap it to the margins.

Set image placeholders
To make an image a placeholder, tap
it, tap the brush icon, and choose Set as
Placeholder from the Image tab. A + sign
appears at the bottom right of the image,
and can be tapped later to quickly replace it.

Save as a template
You can add more master pages to your
template. Click Done. Name your template at
the top, then from the More menu, pick Export

Pages Template to add your design to Pages’
template chooser, or save it.

Lay out your template

Using Pages’ helpful auto–guides and

your invisible margins, complete your layout

with example text and pictures. To prevent an

item being moved accidentally later on, tap it,

tap the brush icon, and choose Arrange > Lock.

Convert to master

For better templates, use master pages.

Tap on an edge of your page and pick Select

All, then tap and pick Cut. Tap the page

thumbnail in the left sidebar and pick Edit

Master Page. Tap on the page and pick Paste.

Use your template

When you create a document from your

template, the template stays intact while a new

document identical to it appears, ready to edit.

Tap the + sign on an image to replace it with

a file or take a photo. Double–tap text to edit it.

Document body describes

a default text area that

extends to extra pages

as you keep typing. A

desktop publishing layout

doesn’t have this: text

needs to go in a box. In

Pages, you can now switch

between word processing

and page layout modes by

turning Document Body

off or on (see step 1).

GENIUS TIP

Replacement images

are auto–sized to fill the

box, so you’ll lose any

previously applied

cropping or settings. If

you’re replacing a new

version of the same

image, or substituting

another from a set you’ve

prepared, you’ll have to

crop it again.
