is a sixth-generation
quarryman who now

When you think of
World Heritage sites
you probably imagine
the Taj Mahal and the
pyramids of Giza, but
perhaps not the slate
landscapes of Gwynedd.
However, they have
just been given the
assignation by Unesco
and feature in this
fascinating Inside
Some of the dramatised
sequences feel
overused, but it’s still
compelling viewing.
The talking heads are
good too, especially the
former Sunday Mirror
editor Eve Pollard,
who has some mildly
positive things to say
about Maxwell’s
recruitment of women,
and his biographer
Tom Bower, who has
little positive to say.
glimpses of him
preening or wearily
barking at underlings.
To illustrate the time
when he went missing
off the side of his boat
near Tenerife, actors
voice the increasingly
panicked phone calls
between senior
executives (of course
Maxwell bugged his
staff ) as they fret about
the missing money
(and missing boss).
precipitous decline in
her fortunes. Order is
soon restored when we
spool back to Robert
Maxwell’s rapacious
business dealings in the
1980s. The director
Daniel Vernon has had
access to private family
and office footage
taken by Robert
Maxwell, a blatant
egotist who wanted his
every move captured.
It offers intriguing
Robert, without getting
angry. So it feels
slightly jarring to have
a title that reminds us
of a brand of instant
coffee and to open
proceedings with Scott
Sharp, the host of a
podcast called True
Crime Loser. He visits
the US detention
centre holding
Ghislaine Maxwell and
breathlessly opines
about the somewhat
