Using dark blue print 2×42" strips
and cream print 2×42" strips, repeat
steps 1 and 2 to make 122 dark blue
Four-Patch units (Diagram 3).
Referring to Diagram 4 and
aligning marked matching points, sew
tan print A triangle to cream print B
triangle. Add tan print A reversed
triangle to make tan star point unit.
The unit should be 3^1 ⁄ 2 " square
including seam allowances. Repeat to
make 122 tan star point units total.
Using brown print A triangles,
brown print A reversed triangles, and
cream print B triangles, repeat Step 4
to make 122 brown star point units
(Diagram 5).
Referring to Diagram 6, sew
together two tan print and two
brown print triangles in pairs. Join
pairs to make an hourglass unit. The
unit should be 3^1 ⁄ 2 " square including
seam allowances. Repeat to make 61
hourglass units total.
Gather two light blue Four-Patch
units, two dark blue Four-Patch
units, two tan star point units, two
brown star points units, and one
hourglass unit.
8. Referring to Diagram 7, lay out
Step 7 units in three rows, noting
orientation of colors. Sew together
units in rows. Join rows to make
Block A. The block should be 9^1 ⁄ 2 "
square including seam allowances.
9. Repeat steps 7 and 8 to make 61
A blocks total.
Assemble Block B
Use a pencil to mark a diagonal
line on wrong side of each cream
print 3^7 ⁄ 8 " square.
2. Layer a marked cream print
square atop a red print 3^7 ⁄ 8 " square.
Sew together with two seams,
stitching^1 ⁄ 4 " on each side of marked
line (Diagram 8). Cut pair apart
on drawn line and press open to
make two triangle-squares. Each
triangle-square should be 3^1 ⁄ 2 " square
including seam allowances. Repeat
to make 240 triangle-squares total.
3. Sew together a cream print 2×42"
strip and a red print 2×42" strip to
make Strip Set B. Repeat to make 22
B strip sets total. Cut strip sets into
240—3^1 ⁄ 2 "-wide B segments
(Diagram 9).
