League. They lost
4-0 at home to
Mansfield Town,
who moved up to
fourth. It was
Scunthorpe’s 15th
defeat in their past
18 matches. The
game was stopped
for a while 15
minutes from time
as home fans
invaded the pitch.
Tennis balls had
also been thrown
onto the pitch in
protest at the
club’s situation.
Stevenage
boosted their
survival hopes
with a 2-0 win
away at Colchester
United. But they
will face Rochdale
on Friday without
Luke Norris, who
scored their
second goal. He
was sent off six
minutes from time.
Joe Kizzi’s
header put Sutton
United back on
course for the
play-offs with the
1-0 defeat of
Leyton Orient.
Oldham Athletic.
The visitors had
won their previous
two games to
move out of the
drop zone and
battled back after
twice going
behind to Jamie
Proctor goals. Brad
Walker, though,
fired in the 54th-
minute winner
from 25 yards.

after the Papa

winners lost 1-0 at
home to Charlton
Athletic. George
Dobson hit the 30-

Leaders Wigan

3-1 win away to
Lincoln City.
Callum Lang

Plymouth

0-0 draw away to
Burton Albion.
Sheffield
Wednesday, in
fifth, were held 1-1

equalised through
MJ Williams’s 90th-
minute strike.
Elliot Embleton’s
89th-minute shot
put Sunderland
into the play-off
places with a 2-1
win away to Oxford

Padraig Amond

minute as Exeter
City, and their
travelling
supporters,

their 700-mile
round trip to
Carlisle United one
match closer to
promotion.
Amond struck
from close range
to give the happy
Grecians a 1-0 win.
Exeter are five
points behind
leaders Forest
Green Rovers, who
have still to return
to their fluent best
after a poor spell.
Regan Hendry’s
strike gave them
the lead in their 1-1
draw with
Hartlepool United,
who equalised

Bogle in the
second half.

Port Vale made it

miserable club
record continued
with a 1-1 draw

the drop zone.
Alex Woodyard

Wimbledon into an
early lead but the
visitors, who

unbeaten run to 15
games, equalised
with a spectacular

not-so-
special one
BEST OF TIMES
Our 3-1 hammering of Real Madrid in
- A magnificent display: the
definitive performance of the
Pochettino era.
WORST OF TIMES
Relegation in 1977 was humiliating. I
didn’t see it coming, so I was
shocked beyond belief. And the
referee giving Moussa Sissoko’s
handball in the Champions League
final. Sometimes you have to
balance the moment with the match.
MY FAVOURITE PLAYER
Glenn Hoddle. The only point of
football is its beauty. He saw
opportunities that nobody else
could. I met him a few years ago at
Heathrow baggage claim, after we’d
been on separate golfing trips. I was
dragged over. He spins around and
says, “Mark Nicholas! I’ve always
wanted to meet you!” We said we’d
play a round, but the pandemic
intervened.
MY LEAST FAVOURITE PLAYER
No players: José Mourinho. At first I
thought he got Tottenham and was
interested and excited to be here.
Then, instead of thinking how lucky
he was and how he’d got it made, he
retreated into moaning and spoilt
whingeing. He could have made
Tottenham a real home for himself,
but I was so disappointed in him. The
game’s passed him by.
IS ANTONIO CONTE THE RIGHT MAN?
Definitely. He’s clearly a brilliant elite-
level manager. Imagine how upset
we’d be if he’d gone to Manchester
United. He’s tactically strong,
mentally strong and it looks as if he’s
here to make Spurs less Spursy. I’d
be mortified if he left early.
WILL HARRY KANE START NEXT
SEASON WITH SPURS?
Yes, although anyone who doesn’t
want to play shouldn’t be here. He
looked shocked to be with us at the
start of this season, but I’ve been
told there was never a formal
Manchester City bid.
John Aizlewood
MY
CLUB
WHY TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR?
My father died just before my 11th
birthday. The following Saturday, my
godfather took me to Stamford
Bridge to see Chelsea play
Tottenham. When Jimmy Greaves
scored for Spurs, it was the most
exciting thing I’d ever seen. I was in
for life.
EARLY MEMORIES
Me, my brother and schoolfriends
mostly stood in the Paxton Road
end, but we were too wimpish
for any street fighting, so we
were careful to surround
ourselves with Tottenham
fans. One time, though, we
were herded up by mounted
police who thought we were
part of the nastiness after an
Arsenal game. I ran under a
horse and kept going all the
way to Seven Sisters. Hoddle made football beautiful
