Change the new layer’s Blending Mode
Unlike the locked Background layer we can change the
Blending Mode of this new layer, so click where it says
‘Normal’ in the Layers panel, and pick one from the list. Because
we want the blurred texture to show over the dark background,
we’ll choose one of the Lighten Blending Modes, in this case,
Screen. If the combination looks good, move on, but if not, try
opening the Levels panel (Ctrl+L) and moving the midtone slider
left or right to change its tone. Click OK when you’re done.

Add more blended layers
Next we’ll add and blend an image of clouds in the same
way as before. This new layer is more detailed, so it’s
important it works with the original image. Press Ctrl+T to enter
Free Transform, and use the corner handles to resize it to fit better.
Then, in the Layers panel, click the Create new fill or adjustment
layer icon and choose Solid Color. Choose a colour in the Picker
and click OK, then change the Blending Mode to Soft Light, and
lower the Opacity to suit your image.
