DAYS OF OUR LIVES’ ripped Kyle
Lowder may be spending even more
time with his shirt off in A Mermaid
For Christmas, the movie that he’s
both executive-producing and star-
ring in, but his character is ver y dif-
ferent from Rex. He says that he and
production-company partners Mi-
chael and Barbara Caruso (WINTER-
THORNE) are excited about him get-
ting to show his true personality. “I’ve
often played sex symbols in my career,
but I’m actually pretty much a dork. I
love my sense of humor, and I tend to
look at the brighter, lighter side of life.”
An Unexpected Love
The romcom, which shoots in early
summer in Los Angeles, is about Daph-
ne (ONE LIFE TO LIVE’s Jennifer, Jes-
sica Morris), whom Lowder says is “not
truly a mermaid but has become one for
a ver y specifi c reason.” Upon arriving
in the fi ctional small town of Cocoa Bay,
she meets Lowder’s character, Travis,
and in discovering that they can help
each other out, “their love stor y builds.”
What’s unusual about the fl ick is that it
combines a holiday theme with whimsi-
cal elements. But also, Lowder says
proudly, “There’s a deeper, more mean-
ingful throughline that culminates with
a beautiful message about selfl essness.”
A Cast Of Familiar Faces
To bring it all to life, Lowder and his col-
leagues needed a cast that could play
“many different colors and layers to a
character,” he explains.
To that end, they called on other tal-
ented actors from their Amazon series,
LADIES OF THE LAKE: Arianne Zuck-
er (Nicole, DAYS) to play the antago-
nist, a land developer who wants to plow
