Thermo Fisher Scientific
designs Sterilin containers
Thermo Scientific Sterilin containers are suitable for
molecular biology, genomic and forensic applications.
For the rigorous requirements of molecular biology,
genomic and forensic research facilities, new
universal containers are specifically lot tested and
certified to be free from RNase, DNase, human DNA
and pyrogens. Thermo Scientific Sterilin quality-
assured containers are aseptically manufactured
under controlled, automated cleanroom conditions.
The containers are designed for the safe handling of
valuable or potentially hazardous samples, reducing
the potential for contamination that could adversely
affect analytical results. The new clear containers
are manufactured with robust polypropylene and
are compliant with 95kPa pressure requirements
at ambient temperatures specified for the transport
of diagnostic specimens. The new containers are
ergonomically designed, featuring a convenient
self-standing conical base and a practical half-turn
Quickstart cap for easier handling.
Philips to acquire
Spectranetics for €1.9 B
Royal Philips has signed a definitive agreement to acquire
US-based cardiac solutions provider Spectranetics for
approximately €1.9bn. Under the agreement, Philips
will purchase all of the issued and outstanding shares of
Spectranetics. Spectranetics provides vascular intervention
for the treatment of coronary
and peripheral artery diseases,
as well as lead management
to allow minimally invasive
removal of implanted pacemaker
and implantable cardioverter
defibrillator (ICD) leads. The transaction is expected
to bolster Philips’ business group of image-guided
therapy, while it will also boost geographical expansion
and commercialisation opportunities for Spectranetics
products. The device portfolio of Spectranetics features
various laser atherectomy catheters for blockage treatment
using laser energy, the AngioSculpt scoring balloon for
mechanically pushing aside a blockage, and the Stellarex
drug-coated balloon to treat complex lesions.
