‘unripe fruit’ and haṇṇu ‘ripe fruit’. In addition, the intermediate stage miḍi
‘fruit set’ is also named in Solega, but as these very small fruit are quite hard to
observe, this term is not commonly used in the context of tall rainforest trees. A
few examples of this type of knowledge are shown in Table 5.1 —the two con-
sultants NG and MRM were asked to freely recall the names of as many forest
trees as they could remember, and to describe their phenological status at the
