Katie’s first morning at UncleRalph’s
Seaview Resort was always the same.When
she and her dad arrived, the hugeone-legged
gull showed up, too. On the day theyleftfor
home, Gulliver disappeared as well.
“It’s amazing,” Uncle Ralph said.“I’d
swear that bird knows your holidayplans.”
It had happened every summer... until
now.
Katie waited for Gulliver’s familiar,
raucous wake-up call. Instead, sheheard
sparrows arguing in the bushes besidethecot-
tages. She heard fishing boats chuggingaway

“KEE-AAH! KEE-AAH! KEE-AAH!
“Gu l l iver’s back !”


inthemorningmist.Sheheard wavelets slurp-
slopunderthewoodendocks.She didn’t hear
Gulliver.
“Maybehemissedtheferry,” Dad teased.
“I bethefounda newgirlfriend,” said
UncleRalph.
Katiepushedthecerealaround in her
bowl.“He’snotcoming.”
“Waitandsee,”Dadsaid,and Uncle Ralph
agreed.
After breakfast,Katietook her camera
andzigzaggeddownthestepsto the sheltered
harbor.A rainbowcollectionof boats bobbed
at theirmoorings.Reflectionsflashed and
frolickedinthesunlight.They made pretty
