2.5 Biocompatibility test
To test the cytocompatibility of the scaffolds made by our structured porogen method using
DDP system human embryonic palatal mesenchymal (HEPM) cells (ATCC, CRL-1486) were
used in this part of study.


2.5.1 Testing protocols
HEPM cells are routinely maintained in Eagles’ minimum essential medium (MEM) with
Earles’ salts supplemented with 10% fetal bovine serum (Hyclone), 2.0mM L-glutamine,
1.0mM sodium pyruvate, 0.1 mM non-essential amino acids, and 1.5 g/L sodium
bicarbonate at 37°C in a 5% CO 2 incubator [Li et al. 2005]. For cell culture studies, the
