Appendix J: Dissemination Tool
The final step in any EBP project is dissemination. It is important to communi-
cate practice changes and results of EBP projects both internally and externally.
Appendix J assists groups to craft messages suitable for each intended audience.
Figure 11.9 provides an example.
- Think about the project findings and practice change initiative. What is the most important
information you need to convey?
Cleansing wipes are best practice over basin bathing.
With implementation of change:
■■Over three months, bathing times decreased and staff and patients reported satisfaction with new process
■■CAUTI rate decreased from 1.8/1000 catheter days to 0/1000 catheter days.
■■The unit saved $0.16 per patient day (potential of $2630 per year) - Align key messages with audiences.

It is important to align the key message with the audience. People
are interested in what the change means for them and how they
may be affected. Carefully tailoring the content and message to
the audience will ensure that these concerns are met.
