Use of CAM among patients with cancer is frequent and growing. There

is also expanding body of knowledge regarding different forms of CAM

and several completed and ongoing large-scale clinical trials of various

modalities. These include herbal preparations, energy-based approaches,

manipulative and body-based approaches, and mind–body medicine. It

is extremely important to ask patients about their use of CAM therapies

and monitor side effects that may occur, as well as incorporate knowledge

into the treatment plan. Several websites have been developed to aid clin-

icians in identifying purported mechanisms and possible adverse effects

and drug interactions of various forms of CAM, especially herbal-derived
