Nicole Kidman says she couldn’t
say no to a second season of the
TV sensation Big Little Lies. “We
were all like, ‘No, we’re done,’ and
it pulled us back in,” says the Aussie
actress, who’s also an executive
producer of the Emmy-award
winning series about a scandal-
plagued group of school mums,
alongside her co-star Reese
Witherspoon. “These women are
great and to watch their characters
unfold even more this season is
just fabulous.”
As is the bond Nic has formed
with the rest of the “Monterey Five”

• Reese, Laura Dern, Zoe Kravitz

and Shailene Woodley – and, of

course, the season’s newcomer,

screen legend Meryl Streep. “Reese

and I were literally screaming on

the phone with each other!” she

says of scoring the Oscar winner for

their series. Here, Nicole opens up

about bonding on and off the BLL

set and what we can expect from

the second instalment...

Was it a pinch-yourself moment

working with Meryl? She’s a

master. It’s like watching the most

exquisite acting. And we all had

so much fun. She’s joined the

gang, she’s such a pro. She shows

up, she’s completely on time,

she’s so prepared! She’s just

there to do the work and she’s

got a fantastic character.

Did you get to hang out with her

much off set? Can you imagine

that we got to go to dinner with

Meryl every week? And hear her

stories?! You can only imagine

the conversations that we had.

It was a really amazing experience

of sharing our indignities and

our triumphs and just every

[shade in the] rainbow of the

female experience in our business.

What about you and Reese? You

two seem super-close as well!

She’s very, very powerful... and

funny as all get-out. When you

can have us all belly-laughing

on the set at one in the morning,

that’s funny.

Can you tell us a bit about your

character Celeste’s storyline this

season? What is the aftermath of

abuse when the partner is gone –

in this case dead? It doesn’t mean

you’re healed.

Is it true Season Two will be even

more tense? The second season’s

not a latte – it’s a double espresso.
