On a cool April morning about 40 photographers headed out from Rama 9 MRT for BPG Walk
#101. The wet weather cut the walk short for some but provided interesting opportunities for
those who braved the elements. In either case, we were glad to have you there.
Having completed my first time selecting photos for the Bangkok Photo Walks Magazine, I can
say it has been both fun and challenging to pour through the hundreds of photos received from
the Rama 9 walk. I now realize how many hours have been spent on this in the past.
This issue will undoubtedly have a different feel from past ones. I have a different eye and
preferences than Dennie did; knowing I could never replicate his years of skill and experience,
I haven’t tried. Ben Reeves, the hero on layout, brings his own particular skills as well. The end
result should be familiar to you even as it is evolving.
One particular note on this issue: no person has more than 4 images in the magazine. This
is not out of some sense of need for “fairness,” as I have no problem with the past practice of
including more pictures from people who submitted a particularly strong set. It rose from a
challenge to myself to really think about choices and pairings.
On other note: although Dennie and DK did not participate in the main walk, they did go on
the scouting walk. In honor of them, all the photos in the pre-walk section of the magazine are
from them.
A big thanks to Mark Hathaway for organizing the walk, and to Ben Reeves for producing
the magazine. On behalf of the three of us, thanks to all who walked! This group has great
photographers who see the same subjects in really interesting and varied ways.Enjoy the magazine!
