The Documentary
World Service, 8.06pm
There are few nations
prouder of their ancient
civilisation than Egypt. Which
probably explains why the
Grand Egyptian Museum is
being built. The complex —
on a 120-acre site a mile from
the pyramids of Giza and
housing 55,000 objects —
will be the world’s largest
archaeological museum,
served by a purpose-built
airport. The architecture
critic and historian Jonathan
Glancey reports on how it’s

all going, ten years after work
began. Will it help the
Egyptian government to
encourage the revival of mass
tourism after a turbulent
decade of strife and Islamic
terrorism? Ben Dowell
