ost period homes undergo
at least a few tweaks and
upgrades over the decades.
Owners make their mark and move on,
new bedrooms are created, second
storeys are built for growing families.
But when architect Alex Porebski
from Porebski Architects was asked
to renovate a Californian bungalow in
Sydney’s eastern suburbs, he discovered
he was the irst person to make any
signiicant changes to the loor plan in
seven decades.
Yep, the three-bedroom home had
been in the one family for 70 years.
‘he whole house was in original
condition,’ Alex says. ‘We think it could
have been a project home built after
the Second World War. It stayed in the
one family, although we understand a
couple of generations have lived in it.’ ▶NEW
