BEACHSIDE LIVING
Interior design is absolutely integral
to any renovation and should be planned
right from the outset. For a cohesive
look, you want to focus on a particular
theme, whether it’s modern, classic,
industrial, Hamptons, mid-century, and
so on. Just make sure it works with the
bones of the building. his house was
located close to Port Phillip Bay in
Melbourne, so I opted for a breezy,
light-toned beach feel.
A major drawback was the ugly
boxed-in foyer with its dated arch,
so I had my chippies knock up a slatted
version that let in the light. hey then
turned their attention to the old ’70s bar.
Out it came and in its place went a
discreet media nook with downlighting.
he old bronze glass in the sliding door
was replaced with opaque panels.
It was then a matter of ripping up
the tatty carpets and polishing up the
gorgeous loorboards underneath to a
high gloss, painting the walls in a muted
grey, and furnishing in rattan and blond
timbers with hints of green. ▶
After
The ’70s bar had to go. A modern
media nook looks right at home.
