hen your aspiring musical
genius wants to get up
close and personal with
your prized stereo system, creative
solutions are in order.
his mixer and deck set has all the
knobs, buttons, cogs and cables that
your mini maestro could desire. All
the elements that make up the set can
be taken apart and put back together
again, so your child will have hours of
entertainment iddling, adjusting and
tweaking their very own DJ unit.
his project makes use of spare
materials leftover from other DIY jobs,
such as red cedar ofcuts, ply wood and
DAR pine. It also upcycles old toys that
were no longer used in their original
form, saving on costs.
Other elements, such as the MDF
discs for the records and decks, are
readily available. he mixer is a box
made from 4mm hardwood ply with
DAR pine sides. he decks utilise 32mm
ply wood and 50mm red cedar scraps.
You only need basic tools for this
project, plus a jigsaw and circular saw,
and it can be completed in a day by a
beginner or intermediate DIYer. It’s
a good idea to have a helping hand for
this project, so maybe a little one can
do some of the steps for you. ▶TOOLS
