- 3 castors with plates, 2 castors
with plates and brakes - 120 grit sandpaper
- 8g x 40mm chipboard screws

his bed base is made from
dressed pine, consisting of one
1800 x 94 x 69mm length cut
into nine 150mm blocks for supports,
six 2400 x 94 x 22 lengths cut into six
1870mm lengths for vertical slats
and 15 1800 x 94 x 22 lengths cut into
1370mm lengths for horizontal slats.
Castors have been installed at the
head and foot of the bed, and in the
centre for extra support. he two castors
with brakes have been positioned at
the foot so they’re easier to reach if you
want to move the bed about.
TIP Ask your supplier to cut the timber
to size. If you’re working alone, it may
be easier to use clamps.O^1 Install the support blocks
Sand the pieces until smooth. Screw
three 150mm support blocks between
two 1870mm vertical slats, with one at
each end and one in the middle. Repeat
to make the other two base structures.O^2 Finish the base structures
Drill pilot holes and screw three of the
1370mm horizontal slats at a right
angle to the three base structures at
each of the block struts. his forms the
bottom of the bed base.O^3 Add the horizontal slats
Turn over the bed base and space the
remaining 1370mm short slats at a right
angle across the top of the base, using
a 70mm wide ofcut as a spacer. Predrill
holes and secure with screws.DIY TIP
You can simply
adjust the length of
the slats depending
on whether you
want a queen- or
king-size bed.O^4 Install the castors
Turn over the bed base and screw one
castor into each corner at the head and
foot, and one in the centre of the bed
base, installing the castors with brakes
