When it comes to the rear of the home,
the same principles apply – keep it neat,
simple and low-fuss.
In the western Sydney back garden,
Cathy laid down some high-quality Sir
Walter bufalo grass, cut back trees, and
placed bark around the plant beds.
‘A couple of the stairs needed
replacing, but because the grass and
the paint job came up so well, there
was very little else we needed to do,’

she says. ‘he trick is to keep it simple.’
If the home has a courtyard rather
than a big backyard, then it could be
worth laying down fake grass, says
Steve Jovcevski.
‘here is nothing wrong with
artiicial grass in small areas, if it’s
50mm thick and looks real,’ says Steve.
‘Some of the thinner, 10mm fake grass
looks cheap, but the thicker grass is
great and owners like it because it
doesn’t require maintenance.’
Whatever renovation jobs you
undertake, one thing is certain: you will
wish you had done it sooner. Just ask Jo.
‘Once we are done styling the house
and the photos have been taken, the
comment always comes from the owner,
‘I wish we had done this earlier – so we
could have enjoyed it’.’ ❖

After
Arid yard is turned into lush lawn,
and the value of this home rises.
