The world’s second largest Banyan tree in Mahabubnagar, India,
has undergone treatment for a termite infestation using intravenous
drips, commonly seen in human hospital wards. The 700-year-old tree
spans across three acres of land and was being tortured so severely
by the termites that authorities restricted public access whilst they
brainstormed ways to save the tourist attraction. Experts first attempted
to inject a powerful pesticide called Chlorpyrifos into the tree’s holes,
however, this failed with the solution dribbling back out. Determined to
save the tree, the team then attached multiple drips containing diluted
pesticide to various tree branches which absorbed the solution over 10
to 14 hours. Photos of the medicated tree circulated on social media with
Mahabubnagar District Forest Officer, Chukka Ganga Reddy, reporting,
“The tree’s health is stable now... We are also planning to open the
site to the public after discussion with the higher officials, but this time
people have to see it from a distance away from the barricades.”

TERMITE TREE-TMENT

SAUCE SLICES

ZOMBIE-LIKE RACCOONS

There’s nothing more annoying then when
tomato sauce drips onto your clean clothes
whilst eating a sausage sandwich. Luckily, Emily
Williams from Bo’s Fine Foods has found a solution
with ‘Slice of Sauce’! Williams was inspired whilst
tinkering with one of her father’s barbeque sauce recipes. Deciding
not to dispose of the leftover braised vegetables, Williams mixed,
ground, baked and dried them up instead. The result was a paste-
like product tasting just like ketchup. With a few tweaks to perfect
the roll-up-resembling condiment, Williams quit her job, found a
business partner, launched Bo’s Fine Foods and started a Kickstarter
crowd-funding campaign. The initial goal to get ‘Slice of Sauce’ into
production was $15,000 which was exceeded 23 days before the
campaign deadline. The Kickstarter page read, “Layer it onto your
burgers, sandwiches, wraps and more for a delicious burst of flavour
and a perfectly portioned bite every time.” Say goodbye to soggy
sausage sandwiches!

Police in Youngstown, Ohio, recently received reports of zombie-
like raccoons appearing during the daytime, flashing their teeth
and falling on their backs for no apparent reason. The area is
populated with raccoons, however, the animals
were mostly known to venture out at night.
Local resident, Robert Coggeshall, described his
encounter of zombie-racoon behaviour, explaining
that the animal stood up on his hind legs to “
show his teeth and then he would fall over
backward and go into almost a comatose
condition... He’d come out of it, walk around and
then he’d do the same thing again.” Coggeshall
claimed the bizarre raccoon routine
continued for about two hours. Wildlife
experts suspect the animals have been
infected with a disease called distemper
and have advised locals to vaccinate
their pets to avoid it spreading.
