AIRSHOW OLD WARDEN
Sky blues,
Blue Skies
T
he Old Warden,
Bedfordshire-based
Shuttleworth Collection
has been blessed with plenty
of superb weather for all of its
air shows this season, and the
Heritage Day (a showcase of its
own aircraft with a few special
guests), on September 2 was
no exception.
Blues skies greeted the very
rare sight of two PRU Blue
Supermarine Spitfire PR.XIs in
formation, with the Hangar 11
Collection’s PL965 (flown by
Peter Teichman, who will shortly
be retiring from display flying –
see pages 52-56), being joined
by former Old Warden resident
PL983, which has recently been
restored by Duxford’s Aircraft
Restoration Company.
The show also included a superb
display from Tobias Ruppel in
Richard Menage’s Focke-Wulf
Fw 44J Stieglitz.
The RAF Battle of Britain
Memorial Flight Dakota was
a welcome visitor, and the
receptive crowd was also
treated to a diverse range of
types from the Shuttleworth
fleet. The last show of the
season takes place on October
7, with a photography night
shoot on October 13.
