T

he problem with carbon steel

moderators is that they rot unless

protected from the corrosion/

moisture build up caused by the hot air

condensing. If that’s not bad enough if

stored with the moddy still attached

and even worse muzzle up this can also

attack the bore and jam the moderator

on! You can spray oil down them every

time, which helps, but Napier of London

has a better idea. SILENSAVE is a

specially formulated chemical

dispensed by aerosol that creates a

mist that coats all the internal surfaces

and baffl es.

It contains Napier’s VP90 corrosion

inhibitor amongst other compounds and

uses a specifi c solvent that evaporates

leaving just the fi nest coating behind.

On fi ring the heat bonds the chemical

to the metal surfaces almost like a

ceramic coating, so when used regularly

it prevents the metals from corroding.

Nothing can prevent the condensation

created within a moderator, but regular

use of SILENSAVE will make sure

that it does not lead to damage and

greatly prolongs the life of any type or

make of silencer and your barrel too.

Napier told us that over the past 6

years a brand new Jet Z moderator

fi tted to a Mauser MO3, has been

used weekly and has passed more

than 500 .308 rounds, yet there is

absolutely no sign of internal corrosion

and it can be screwed on and off the

barrel with ease.
