CATCH REPORTS

Youngster James Bushnell has

been creating a bit of a storm

recently by taking a string of

decent  sh and claiming some

sponsorship deals to boot, and his

latest trip was to a park lake in

Hudders eld. I’ve not got too

many details about the venue, but

James landed a couple of the better

residents when he used a 14mm

pop-up on a hinged sti rig

carrying a Castaway PVA bag of

maggots and liquidised bread.

Glugged in Betalin, James’s rig was

picked up twice during his session,

once by an 11lb 6oz  sh and then

by a 14½lb. It just goes to show

that many park lakes can be worth

targeting.

Near Preston, Wyreside

Fisheries is starting to provide

consistent sport and plenty of big

 sh. John Boothman certainly

seemed to have luck on his side

when he took a trio of  sh from

Wyre Lake weighing 21lb, 22lb and

25lb, which all fell to Sticky

pop-ups over Krill freebies. Sunny

One has produced some stunning

mirrors, including the Captain at

28lb, caught by Alex Woodcock,

who used Impulse Baits Legend

pop-ups, and ex-member Mark

Chambers also had a bumper 24

hours, taking a lovely 26lb  sh and

a 22-pounder. Sunny Two has also

had a brilliant week, producing a

dozen  sh in total, with the biggest

weighing 24lb. River Lake has also

been doing itself justice and has

produced seven to 22lb. (www.

In Derby, the Earl of

Harrington’s Angling Club took

over the running of  ve park lakes

from the City Council last year,

which has involved a lot of time

and e ort from club members to

turn years of neglect into thriving

venues. It paid o handsomely for

club angler Ricky Cross this week,

when he targeted the relatively

unknown Alvaston Park Lake in

search of carp and was rewarded

with a smashing 31lb common,

which may well be a di erent  sh to

the known Big Common. Ricky used

Brooms Cross Fishery on

Merseyside, with pegs now surfaced

and a cabin with a small bait shop

on site (so baits can be collected at

the  shery). Weed control is also

under way, with lake shadow (not

the blue dye) being applied to

suppress excessive weed growth

over the coming warmer months.

after the winter hibernation to take

a low-double common on Urban

while regular angler Paul Moore

stole the show, landing the Vessel

for a second time in a year, this time

at 29½lb on Peperami.

Last week, I mentioned that

Rosie had surfaced at Cromwell

Lake in Nottinghamshire, and this

week I have the

Elsewhere on the

 shery, Jason

Scally continued

his form, netting

four to 22lb using

critically balanced

snowman rigs over

a regularly

topped-up bed of

freebies in 14ft of

water. David Shattock managed a

brace of mid-teens on the  rst

night of his nine-day session;

hopefully there will be a few more

to add next week. Louis Laundrie

 shed yellow baits on chod rigs

over a generous amount of

maggots to tempt a 23lb mirror

during his short visit, and Mick

Pearson netted his  rst carp of the

year, using a single pink pop-up.

At Hunters Lodge Fishery in

Lincolnshire, some lovely looking

carp have been caught this week,

and plenty of them. On Willow,

Andy Walton had a lovely looking

common of 23lb 13oz, part of a

double take. Also on Willow, Fred

Moiser took six  sh to 16lb during

his 24-hour session, all caught on

Sticky White Ones. Working well on

Willow is the new Nashbait Key.

Lewis Marshall caught at least four

carp during the  rst night of his

session on Willow using the new

bait. Meanwhile, on Kestrel, Sam

Bingham reported a lovely looking

dark mirror carp estimated at

around 15lb on DNA Baits products.
