also gained by the DNA team members by using the Flouro Booster
Liquids over their floating pellets. A tactic that certainly made the difference
as the teams smashed their way over the tonne marks time after time,
enduring sleep deprivation and aching arms. We should also remember
the route the pairing of Neil Rivers and Chris Holmes took as they set a
new venue match record at Orchard Place Farm by landing a total of 609lb
of carp. PB’s were broken that weekend by the pair using maggots and
the Wraysberry Booster Liquid. Onto the final and we’re afraid that’s where
the fairytale ends for this particular comp as a number of bad draws meant
the lads were spectators rather than competitors on this particular
occasion. That is the way it goes though and full credit to the winners. We’ll
be back for this title, we assure you!Another success for DNA this year was Callum Gutteridge and Karl Palmer
both managing to make the UK Carp Cup Singles Final. Unfortunately for
Karl the weekend had almost finished before he had started when the
dreaded out of the bag draw saw him draw a stinker of a peg! On the other
hand Callum had been dealt a good peg and made the most of this. The
tactic of zig fishing using the new StickySweet and spodding maggots
glugged in the Wraysberry booster proved to be the downfall of many
Oxlease carp. The weekend ended with Callum stood on the rostrum with
a well-deserved third place.The best was yet to come though in the form of the BCAC finals at the
famous Wraysbury Lake. Not for the first time this year DNA had managed
to pack a healthy number of finalists into the draw. Coming fourth out of
the draw was the pairing of Rivers and Holmes who chose a peg highly
fancied by the pair. The spots were found and the traps were set. The
approach used mainly revolved around S7 boilie, S7 pellet, Wraysberry pop
ups and Wraysberry booster. The tactics used were small solid bags of S
pellet glugged in Wraysberry booster with the Wraysberry pop up as the
preferred hook bait. As the weekend progressed the lads managed to snare
eight of the famous carp totalling a weight of 132lb and therefore earning
themselves the title of 2014 British Champions. A Fantastic finish to what
was an incredible season, for the carp match anglers of Team DNA.Late in 2013, the powers that be at DNA decided a proper assault would
be made of the British carp match scene for the 2014 season. Knowing
the time and effort involved in running such an outfit it was also
decided that team members; Neil Rivers and Chris Holmes would be
assigned to take charge of what was going to be an organizational
nightmare. A number of lads were selected for the team most of whom
were already part of the DNA family along with the match regulars.
There was a great buzz around the team as we all felt something
special was about to happen.In the match scene there are a number of titles held in high regard in
which every carp match angler tries their upmost to achieve success. The
favoured are, in no particular order, the regional British Carp Cups, BCAC,
Carp Cup and the new kid on the block, Eric’s Carp Champs. We’ll begin
our story with the Northern Carp Cup, part of the British Carp Cups group
which is always a favourite taking place so close to DNA HQ. It was boss
man Jason Trought and his match partner Darren Wilcox who were to set
the ball rolling for the season. Having qualified for the finals through a
dreaded cast off, Jason and Darren put their local knowledge of final venue
Poolbridge Farm’s Q Lake to good use, managing to amass a total weight
of 95lb 13oz. The tactics used by the lads were simple but effective. Crushed
SLK mixed with red maggots covered in SLK liquid Food. Over the top of
this they alternated Wraysberry Wafters and SLK bottom baits. This secured
the pair the title of 2014 Northern Carp Cup champions and after reaching
the final but falling at the final hurdle the previous year, it felt well deserved.Onto the big money Eric’s Carp Championship now, in which no less than
a third of the eventual finalists were from the DNA camp of anglers, some
feat! On the route to the Farlows Lake final, two venues stood out as huge
successes for the team. First was Barston Lakes with a number of qualifiers
coming from this round. Barston is somewhere that has historically
produced huge hauls over the last couple of years by anglers using the
unbeatable Secret 7 boilie, and weights of 900lb+ have been achieved on
more than one occasion. Walking the bank and spotting the amount of
non-team anglers using the S7 on this venue is testament to just how
effective it is. The other venue which stood out in the same comp was the
famous Drayton Reservoir. Out of six pairings from DNA that had qualified
for the semi-final, no less than four pairs won their sections convincingly
using mainly trimmed down pop ups soaked in EVO liquids. An edge wasHOME OF THE CHAMPIONS
