Bavaria Cruiser 34
Bavaria’s new 34 feels a little small for a
34ft yacht – not surprising really, as the hull
length is actually 32ft, the same as Bavaria’s
Easy 9.7, Cruiser 33 and the Cruiser 32 she
replaced. What she offers that those models
didn’t is a three-cabin layout as standard.
Sailing with seven other adults in a 32ft
yacht might not be your idea of fun, but
if you have a couple of children who want
their independence and own space, the
layout starts to make sense.
On deck, the cockpit is comfortable and a
Drawn by Mini Transat 6.50 designer Pierre
Rolland, her powerful delta-shaped hull,
twin rudders and a well laid out cockpit
make her look easy to sail and probably
very quick, too. Below the waterline there’s
a choice of fi n, twin or lifting keels, which
offer 1.95m, 1.55m and 1.1m/2.4m draught.
At the bow, she sports an offset carbon
sprit for offwind sails, a bow roller and a

windlass feeding into a chain locker forward.
In the cockpit, her family-friendly design brief
dictated that the traveller is aft of the twin
tillers, out of harm’s way, and there’s a wedge
in the cockpit sole for bracing feet. Stowage
is in two full-depth quarter lockers and will be
even better in the standard two-cabin version.

for those just under 6ft at the base of the

decent size. Bavaria has managed to add twin
wheels with Jefa steering. Cockpit stowage
is limited to two small, sole-depth lockers, so
those wishing to cruise for longer might be
stumped for where to stow all their kit.
Down below, the twin aft cabins are both a
decent size, the L-shaped galley is practical if a
little small, with only a single sink, and there is
no chart table. The teak Alpi interior and white
tongue-and-groove effect panels on the hull
sides look really good.
The thickness of the locker edges, solid
wood door surrounds and fi ddles all add to
the quality and style. White panels and teak
companionway, a small galley to starboard
and a heads compartment to port. Aft of
the heads is a small nav station and aft
again, the smaller of the two double cabins
(it’s a technical area in the two-cabin
layout). The saloon has a fi xed table with
two leaves and a V-berth forward with a
fabric ‘door’. The windows, particularly the
huge one on the front of the coachroof,
ensure plenty of light below.
Who would she suit?
A sporty couple or family who like cruising
short-handed. I’ll bet she’s a hoot to sail.

work well above the V-berth in
the forecabin.
The old Cruiser 32 and 33
models bested their rivals
with an unusually large heads
compartment. With that area now taken up
by a cabin, the heads has moved forward
and shrunk considerably; it’s now small with
a toilet, a shower and a quirky-shaped sink,
but not a lot else.
Who would she suit?
Port-hopping cruisers who want a stylish
boat with three cabins – and moderate
marina fees.
