FOLLOWING THE RACES in Chicago, the Louis Vuitton America’s
Cup World Series Portsmouth in the UK will be held in July.
The four-day event at the Southsea Common will kick off with an
exclusive preview day consisting of youth engagement day of the 1851
Fund, the official charity of the series. The charity will partner with
the Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation and provide inspiring free
sailing taster sessions for the second year running to young people in
Portsmouth and the surrounding areas.
The second day will have on-water action and Red Arrows flying
displays, as well as a meet-and-greet with the sailors. More exciting
races will take place over the remaining two days, with the Royal Navy
providing services and support as an official stakeholder.
With Sevenstar Star Transport acting as its official logistics supplier,
Land Rover BAR launched #BringTheCupHome online campaign for
the Brits to show support for the team on winning with the advantage
of home water. The audience will look forward to seeing if the team will
surpass overall leader Emirates Team New Zealand this summer.

THE SAILING ACTION as part of Rio 2016 Olympic Games will get
underway on Aug 8 with the RS:X windsurfing events on the Pão de
Açucar course. The first medal races will take place on August 14, with
two per day until August 18 when the 49er and 49erFX finals will bring
the regatta to a close.
There have been concerns over water quality in Guanabara Bay, but
initial tests carried out by ISAF following the second test event showed
that the rate of illness among sailors was much lower than would be
expected and within levels considered acceptable.
The regatta will be held on the same courses used for the second test
event in August – three in Guanabara Bay and two out in the Atlantic
Ocean – while a new reserve course within the bay has been added to
the existing one located in the open sea.
