⠿ MARINE MAINTENANCE WORLD EXPO CONFERENCE 2016

(^56) ⠿ MARINE MAINTENANCE TECHNOLOGY INTERNATIONAL | APRIL 2016
Day 3 // Thursday, June 23
9:10-11:00am – Maintaining the next
generation of propulsion technology
Moderator
John Carlton, Professor of marine
engineering, City University London, UK
9:10am – New generation of propulsion
systems: meeting the future needs
Elias Boletis, director, marine solutions,
propulsion technology, Wärtsilä Netherlands
BV, Netherlands
Edgar Snelders, head of the validation team,
propulsion, Wärtsilä Netherlands BV,
Netherlands
As the marine sector adopts the next generation
of propulsion systems to combat challenges of
costs, manning, resilience and environmental
protection, the question arises of designing
integrated systems with easier, more automated
and smarter maintenance options. This
presentation will look at how Wärtsilä is
delivering on these issues.
9:35am – Wireless technology enables
higher condition monitoring
performances in thrusters
Marco Cristoforo Camporeale, general
manager, health management, Rolls-Royce
Marine, Norway
Rolls-Royce offers a portfolio of innovative
products and service solutions that enables our
customers to transform their marine operations
by harnessing the power of data to optimize
asset life. Rolls-Royce has been offering
equipment health management solutions
for thrusters for the past decade, and now is
introducing wireless technology for energy
and data transfer to offer an even more reliable
and cost-efficient solution for our customers.
Rolls-Royce is piloting this technology with
the Wire the Fleet program.
10:00am – Maintenance made easy (and
cost-effective) with gas turbines
Brien Bolsinger, vice president, marine
operations, GE’s Marine Solutions, USA
During propulsion system selection, expenses
that extend beyond fuel price and consumption
must be considered. This presentation will focus
on the ease of maintenance and reduced costs
associated with GE’s Combined Gas turbine,
Electric and Steam (COGES) system. By
following GE’s ‘on condition’ philosophy, engine
overhaul is arranged only when necessary. A
COGES system requires only 300 man-hours
per year for routine operator maintenance. Along
with fewer crew members, a COGES-powered
ship provides for reduced lifecycle costs
compared with other propulsion technologies.
10:30-11:00am – Break
11:00am-12:40pm – Maintaining the
availability and increasing the
up-time of maritime assets
Moderator
Daniel C Shorten, maintenance consultant,
OptiMain, UK
11:00am – Availability through
maintenance
Danielle Lammens, maintenance excellence
manager, Exmar Shipmanagement NV,
Belgium
This presentation will look at a new approach
to maintenance based on a new maintenance
philosophy adopted by Exmar
Shipmanagement. The focus on reliability-
centered maintenance methodology will be
outlined.
11:25am – Minimizing asset downtime
Herman Kruis, technical support, Goltens
Rotterdam BV, Netherlands
This presentation will review a series of case
studies, each outlining a type of repair. The
purpose is to demonstrate how, in each
instance, owners and operators can minimize
the downtime of the asset when it comes to
r ep air.
11:50am – The continuous uptime
program for ships and rigs (CUP)
Lucas Staub, senior manager, global service
sales, marine and offshore, Bosch Rexroth,
Netherlands
This program consists of an agreed maintenance
approach for hydraulics and controls at ships
and rigs, based on the classification cycle.
Tailored to the maintenance strategy of the
owners or operators, the program will provide
maximum up-time and shortest possible docking
time by gathering condition information and lean
maintenance solutions.
12:15pm – Lifetime extension of vessel
drives and automation
Marko Loisa, product manager, Protacon Ltd,
Finland
Several vessel propulsion drives, power
generation and automation systems are
approaching obsolescence, causing a scarcity of
spare parts. At the same time, the number of old
