Royal Doeksen has become the sole

owner of Dutch superyacht builder

Royal Huisman and has announced

plans to expand into two additional

facilities in Germany and the

Netherlands. In 2014 the Dutch holding

company bought shares in the

family-owned yard then run by

managing director Alice Huisman.

The recent buyout puts an end to 133

years of family ownership. Stepping

down from her role, Huisman said that

the new capital was in the yard’s best

interest. “So it is time for us, as a family,

to stand aside. In doing so, we naturally

take pleasure in leaving the yard with a

healthy order book and hard fought

When they took delivery of the biggest Selene

trawler yet built, the 92 foot Watta Ryde, the

owners could not wait to take her cruising. They

had worked closely with Guido de Groot Design

on its functionality. “Every detail was thought out

as it would be in their own house,” says De Groot.

“They brought valuable experience into the

design process.”

What attracted the owners to the larger Selene

(their previous one was a 60 footer) was its styl-

ing, although they love its efficiency too. How-ev-

er, with a portfolio of businesses requiring their

attention, the owners have decided to take a

break from cruising and have listed Watta Ryde

for sale with Seattle-based Hampton Yacht

Group. Selene, meanwhile, is building a yet

larger trawler by Guido de Groot Design due to

Hail the Viking queen

Viking Yachts is making good progress toward the

fall unveiling of its new flagship, the Viking 93.

The 93 foot tri-deck motor yacht will have five

staterooms, a country galley and enclosed bridge

set-up. An entirely new project for the yard in Gretna,
