lthough yacht design is an ever-evolving
landscape, some things never change.
Here are some practical additions that
won’t go out of style, will make your lady
happier to be on board and, I am willing to bet, will
enhance your experience as well.
- Keep it dry! Have you ever seen a woman sprint
through a parking lot despite heels and shopping
bags at the sight of a raindrop? Women hate humidity
and will take extreme measures to avoid frizzy hair.
Make sure that your boat’s air system comes with
a good dehumidifier. It sounds like a little thing,
but when your lady is tossing her smooth locks and
you slide into crisp dry sheets at night,
you’ll thank me. - Keep it stable! Do you have any idea
how hard it is to apply make-up when
the boat is rocking? We would relish an
upgraded stabilizer so no matter where
we are or what the weather forecast is,
we can apply eyeliner without ending up
with a pirate eye patch. - While we’re on the subject, we’d love
a separate make-up vanity outside the
bathroom. Stateroom bathrooms can be quite small,
even on large yachts, and get steamy from even a short
shower. Unless you’re planning to install windshield
wipers on the mirrors, give us an area where we
can see clearly.
How can you make the yachting
experience more amenable to a
lady? Kristin Ducote dishes out a
second helping of advice for the man
who wants to get his wife on board

- At the risk of sounding too picky, we’d also like full
length mirrors and jewelry safes in every stateroom.
At some point, guests will want to check out their
new tan. And safes will allow guests to bring jewelry
without worrying about it during day trips off the boat. - Lastly, let’s discuss closet space. Granted, bikinis
don’t take up a lot of room, but we still want a roomy
closet to spread out our things. Trust me, a beautiful
closet lights up pleasure receptors in our brains. And
the better we can see what we have, the less we actually
need to buy – or at least that’s what I tell my husband!
I’m sure there are women out there with different
requirements for boating bliss. The point is you need
to talk to her. Get the dialogue going. Don’t leave her
out of the negotiations of a boat build, purchase or
charter. She will add little touches you never thought
of. And each addition will make your time together on
the water that much more enjoyable.
Remember what they say: happy wife, happy life!
Until next time... B
