- formerly Project

Mammoth manoeuvres in
Germany last month sent
yachtspotters reaching for their
cameras as Lürssen launched the
monumental Project Thunder
just days after Project Mistral was
delivered under the name Amadea.
Both yachts feature
exterior styling by Espen Øino
International, showcasing the
breadth of the studio’s work. While
Amadea boasts classical lines,
Project Thunder sports a dark hull
finish and triple-height windows.
The German yard is remaining
characteristically quiet about both
launches, with interior details
under wraps and the lengths
of both yachts still officially
undisclosed. Amadea is believed
to measure 106m, and Project
Thunder is described by the yard
as “more than 120m long” – but
local reports put it at closer to
135m. Either way, this is easily the
largest launch of 2017 so far. Both
will be surpassed, however, by the
German yard’s largest in build
project, which measures 146m and
is due to be completed next year.
