NORTH SAILS

Founded in San

Diego, California, back

in 1957 by Olympic

gold medallist

Lowell North,

North Sails

is one of the

most famous

and largest

sail-making

companies in the

world. And as such it

has had many years of

experience in stitching

materials. So perhaps

it is no surprise that

it has spawned a fully

fledged fashion label.

While it has been available in markets

such as Italy for a few years it is only

recently that North Sails has started to

expand in the UK and US, with a new

flagship store in NYC. Naturally the

collection has a strong nautical feel to it

but it goes way beyond just foul weather

gear – the logo-emblazoned T-shirts

and shorts are more likely to be worn

in Comporta than on the high seas.

The down jackets, however, will please

landlubbers and crew alike.
