Korean ferry operator.

Designed by Incat

Crowther and built by

Austal,SeaStar 11has joined

a fleet of ferries running

from the mainland to

Ulleung-do island.

Incat Crowther worked

Australia Delivers to Korea

with Seaspovill to develop

the design and also assisted

with the preparation of a

preliminary design package

as well as the selection

of Austal Philippines to

construct the vessel.

The catamaran can carry

up to 346 passengers on the

main deck, 96 on the upper

deck seating, and eight in a

VIP cabin.

Powered by four MTU

16V2000 M72 main engines

producing 1440kW each

and driving Kamewa 56A

waterjets, SeaStar 11 can

reach 40kt but is optimised

for a loaded operating speed

of 33kt at a modest MCR.

The contract was valued

at $16million and the ferry

represents Austal’s first

build for South Korea.
