Slide Anchor Box Anchor
This brilliant design forces a quick double take when you see its untraditional shape, and that is precisely where its genius lies. The symmetrical box design allows the Box
Anchor to set beautifully, even with a change in the wind direction, due to its ability to roll over.
With a traditional anchor, if you are in a cove or canyon and the wind direction suddenly changes, you have to power up the boat, retrieve the anchor, and try to reset it to
accommodate the new situation. The Box Anchor has been designed to take care of all of this for you. The new wind direction brings the boat over the top of the anchor, freeing
it from the bottom, but as the boat passes over the top of the anchor and continues toward its new resting place, the Box Anchor simply rolls over on its other side to set firmly
in the new direction.
The Box Anchor’s unique patented design allows it to hold your boat at a 45-degree angle from the bottom, digging the downward-facing flukes firmly into the bottom
without snagging them permanently on debris. This angle functions well even at an incredible two-to-one scope!
When it comes to retrieval, just pull the line to bring the boat over the top of the anchor and the lack of upward facing surface area will allow the Box Anchor to pop right
off the bottom. And when it comes time for storage, the Box Anchor folds completely flat to be stored in its complimentary ventilated storage bag. http://www.slideanchor.com
West Marine
The West Marine Traditional Anchor offers a well-
executed and competitively-priced take on a classic
design. The marine products retailer decided
to take the plunge and manufacture its
own anchor after becoming frustrated
with the lack of a simple, reliable
anchor at a low enough price point.
The West Marine Traditional Anchor is
modeled after the original lightweight
Danforth anchors, with care taken to
execute the design with the needed precision
to effect superior performance. Long experience with
this style of anchor informs the company’s quality control,
and every anchor is made so the flukes will form an angle of 32
degrees when tilting in either direction to within one or two degrees.
The pivoting steel fluke design is ideal for applications on
sand and mud surfaces, though it struggles with grassy or rocky
bottoms. Care is also taken that both flukes of each anchor will
always maintain their points in the same plane. This prevents
the unwanted scenario where one fluke bites into the lakebed
while the other sleds across the surface of the sand. With care
taken that the angle and plane of the flukes are near their
ideal, together with a tapered shank with chamfered edges for
deeper seabed penetration and increased stock length and fluke angle
for roll stability and dependability, this anchor has developed a reputation for a solid set in sandy bottoms. West Marine anchors stay rooted in the basics of what works in the
same way that they keep your boat rooted to the lakebed. The West Marine Traditional Anchor weighs in at 13 pounds and comes with a five-year warranty.
