Technology-Driven
While the release of these outboards shows Honda’s commitment to innovation
dating back more than 50 years, it’s a closer look at the four exclusive technologies
in Honda’s DNA—including VTEC—that makes the four-stroke outboard giant
stand out from its competition.
Those technologies include BLAST (throttle sensor that boosts the timing),
Lean Burn Control (fuel efficiency by changing air flow for lighter loads), AMP+
(when the engine feels battery draw it raises the RPMs to charge), as well as
VTEC (variable valve timing that changes lift and direction on cam shaft). Honda
sees this as not only saving the consumer money, but also being environmentally
responsible by not burning more fuel than necessary.
Pontoon-Friendly
Fuel efficiency is only one reason Honda Marine has done so well in the
pontoon segment of the boating industry. Of course, the standard five-year factory
warranty helps contribute to the success, but there’s a lot more to it than just that.
“Our engines are well-suited for the pontoon boat because they’re quiet,
reliable and fuel-efficient so they work well with the pontoon buyer,” said Walton.
“This includes entry-level buyers or owners looking to downsize too—boaters
who prefer a smaller pontoon with a 60hp. With the marine business being very
specific with needs and wants, we’re trying to make sure we have a product for
every type of boater out there because the Honda brand goes a long way and we
really want to leverage that good Honda name.”
