AMAZING OSHKOSH
Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, hosted EAA AirVenture
for the 49th year. This photo gives an idea of the size of the event that
featured 19,588 aircraft movements – an average of approximately 134
take-offs/landings per hour. The longest of the airport’s runways is
8,002ft (2,439m).
Other nearby facilities hosted aircraft bringing the total to more than
10,000. There were 2,979 show aircraft (the second year numbers
have exceeded 2,900) consisting of 1,160 home-built aircraft (a 5%
increase), 1,094 vintage, 377 warbirds (a 7% rise), 185 ultralight and
light-sport varieties, 75 seaplanes, 22 rotorcraft, 52 aerobatic aircraft
and 14 hot air balloons.
Approximately 601,000 people visited the show which was a new
record and exceeded last year’s gure by 2%. There were 1,500
forums, workshops and presentations attended by 75,000-plus people.
Commercial exhibitors numbered 867.
This festival of aviation has grown into a huge gathering of aircraft,
companies and the aviation-minded – and just keeps getting bigger!
