Another point of growth has been at the
airline’s only Scandinavian destination,
Bergen in Norway. “For a long time, we’ve
operated one or two ights a week from
Shetland in the summer and in 2017 we
reintroduced a non-stop service from
Kirkwall for the rst time in ve or six years,
and that went ne. We added Glasgow-
Bergen twice a week and were initially very
nervous about sales. But it came good
and has continued this year.” Since May 10
Inverness and Manchester also have a year
round link to Bergen.
All of this has resulted in an increased
presence in Norway, where Loganair is
building its sales and marketing. “About 26%
of our passengers on the Norwegian routes
originate in Norway. There’s no reason why
that shouldn’t be 50:50 if we can get our
message out.”
Loganair also operates government-
supported PSO (public service
obligation) routes in Scotland, but these
provide less than 6% of its revenue,
according to Hinkles. “Most [of our]
PSOs have been renewed in the last
year. The Twin Otter operation was
renewed in 2014, so it takes us through
