KOMODO NATIONAL PARK

Did you know that the countr y of Indonesia
has more than 17,000 islands? Some are
quite large, like Sumatra, which has more
than 50 million people, while other islands
are simply rocky reefs that can only be
seen during low tide.
Komodo National Park is made up of
a few of these islands, namely Komodo,
Padar, Rinca and 26 smaller ones. The
park is so special that it was declared
a UNESCO World Heritage Site to protect
its natural beauty as well as its animals
and plants.
The park is home to many land and sea
creatures living across dif ferent landscapes.
On one side, there are lush, green tropical
forests and tall hills, while on the other, there
are sandy beaches and oceans bursting
with life. The marine creatures include whale
sharks, manta rays, pygmy seahorses, and
beautiful coral reefs.
