A Veritable
Motoring Mecca
I
t may not be the largest motor spares franchise in South Africa but ABE
Midas in Rietfontein, Pretoria, is certainly one of the busiest. Owned
by Andre Potgieter since 1987, the operation owes its success to the
dedication and skill of its 75 staff members who serve customers seven
days a week from seven in the morning till long after the sun has set.
With a broad customer base including private motorists, goverment
departments and business fl eets, ABE Midas is a genuine one-stop-shop for
automotive services, incorporating a comprehensive spares inventory for cars,
LCVs and heavy trucks, a full-spectrum workshop with diagnostic equipment,
a battery and tyre hub, an outdoor centre, a safety-wear store and a food and
drink take-away counter.
According to Eddy Carrihill, co-manager of ABE Midas (alongside co-manager,
Ruaan Jacobs), “our key diff erentiating business ingredients are our extended
busines hours and our optimum parts pick rate. Our cusomers always get what
they need, when they need it. Furthermore, our team of 15 sales executives
is extremely hands-on, off ering expert advice on both automotive parts and
vehicle servicing.”
ABE Midas has a well-established relationship with
Argus Motor Company and stocks all its leading
brands, including DOE, BETA and X-Appeal. “The
right quality at the right price is critical to our success.
The products we stock from Argus Motor Company
meet these requirements as does the merchandising
equipment. Ultimately, we’re in a ‘people’s business’
and the fact that the folk at Argus are always on-
hand to assist us, extends our customer servicing
capabilities in no small measure,” concludes Carrihill.

“GarageXpo is specially curated for the African aftermarket, where some of the largest and most authoritative players in the this industry
will convene and share insights and new technology. As part of the Tyrexpo series of events, GarageXpo will be held in Asia, India,
and South Africa, together in their respective countries, where obvious synergies between the tyre and garage communities can be
leveraged, creating even greater value for the entire automotive ecosystem.” says Ian Wu, cluster director (healthcare and automotive
and commodities cluster of SingEx Exhibitions).
Together with the exhibition component, participants of GarageXpo
can also look forward to expertly curated conference and workshop
sessions, including digitalisation of the aftermarket business, developing
web strategies and budget, and extracting the maximum value out of
involvement in communities.
Moving away from being merely an exhibition, GarageXpo will provide
participants with fi rst-hand insights on industry trends from thought
leaders, unmatched networking opportunities, knowledge upgrade through
workshops, and dedicated business matching services.
GarageXpo Africa is supported by one of South Africa’s most authoritative
and market leading industry associations - SABOA (South African Bus
Operators Association), a non-profi t organisation which represents the
interests of the public transport industry at government level as well as
among its stakeholders.
